It’s Flu Season

Last year we posted about the relationship between asthma and the flu.  Well, it’s that time of year again – in fact, I’m writing this post while working from home with a 3rd grader who may well have come down with the flu!

If you have asthma or other ailments that might be exacerbated by the flu, it’s important to get your flu shot before we get much more deep into the season.  The Virginia Department of Health is now offering flu shots at a number of locations across the region:

The Community Wellness Center at Valley View Mall — lower level next to Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream and Barnes and Noble Booksellers. Clinics are through December on Wednesdays and Saturdays (10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day), closed Nov. 27 and 30, Dec. 21, 25 and 28.

Roanoke City Health Department –1502 Williamson Rd., N.E., 2nd floor, Roanoke. Walk-in clinic Fridays (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and Thursdays (4 to 6 p.m.), closed on Nov. 28 and 29. Call 540-283-5050 for an appointment, or to check on additional walk-in hours.

Salem Health Department  — 105 East Calhoun St., Salem. Walk-in clinic Fridays (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) , closed Nov. 28 and 29. Call 540-387-5530 for an appointment, or to check on additional walk-in hours.

Vinton Health Department — 227 S. Pollard St., Vinton. Walk-in clinic Fridays (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) , closed Nov. 28 and 29. Call 540-759-3636 for an appointment, or to check on additional walk-in hours.

Covington Health Department — 321 Beech St., Covington. Walk-in clinic Fridays (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) , closed Nov. 28 and 29.  Call 540-962-2173 for an appointment, or to check on additional walk-in hours.

Craig County Health Department — 161 Main St., New Castle. Walk-in clinic Fridays (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) , closed Nov. 28 and 29. Call 540-864-5136 for an appointment, or to check on additional walk-in hours.

Botetourt County Health Department –21 Academy St., Fincastle. Walk-in clinic Fridays (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.), closed Nov. 28 and 29. Call 540-473-8240 for an appointment, or to check on additional walk-in hours.
